The Telegraph reveal to Tottenham fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern that their boss Mauricio Pochettino plans to raid his former club with a January move for their sidelined striker Jay Rodriguez.
The 25-year-old was in great form heading into the final stages of last season, registering 14 goals in the 2013/14 campaign.
However, the former Burnley man missed out on Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad after suffering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury at Manchester City, keeping him out action ever since.
He is scheduled to make a return in November, which is expected to reignite Pochettino’s initial interest in the summer and there are rumours suggesting that Andros Townsend may be offered in a part-exchange deal.
This is not the first time the Argentine manager has ruffled a few feathers at his former club since departure, after his relentless pursuit of Morgan Schneiderlin during the summer which temporarily unsettled the French international midfielder.
And Southampton will be determined to hold off such interest for their sidelined striker as they did when they held onto Schneiderlin.
But as you can imagine, Spurs will keep on pushing as they are desperate to add depth to their squad which struggled to cope with playing in both the Premier League and the Europa League.
Although something that may turn Ronald Koeman’s head is that with Italian international Graziano Pelle in fine form, he may opt to lose Rodriguez and potentially swap him with Andros Townsend who could help create chances for his former Feyenoord man.
