Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern last night were left drowning their sorrows after boss Andre Villas-Boas dismissed reports linking the club with Brazilian striker Hulk after he confirmed that trying to sign the long-term target was ‘impossible’.
Villas-Boas worked with the current Zenit St Petersburg man when both were at FC Porto and with the White Hart Lane-based club desperately seeking striking reinforcements this summer it was rumoured that Spurs were looking at a possible transfer for the Brazilian international.
Despite signing for the Russian club less than 12 months ago, Hulk is ready to leave the Petrovsky Stadium but Villas-Boas has admitted to ESPN that the striker is outside of the Lilywhites’ transfer budget that the club have at their disposal this summer.
“He was my player and scored 36 goals in one season,” said Villas-Boas.
“But it’s impossible he will make a move here because of the wages that he earns, which would break our balance.
“He may have options in the summer but to a club like Tottenham his transfer fee is also impossible.”
Spurs are looking to strengthen in the final third of the team after comprising just Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe in attack this term but one man who won’t be signing is the powerful Brazilian forward.
