Tottenham fans will be hoping for a busy January transfer window this month, with Spurs competing for both domestic and European honours.
The North London side topped a difficult Champions League group including holders Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, and fans here in The Transfer Tavern are confident that their side can overturn Italian champions Juventus in the first knockout round. However the consensus is that the side need a couple more quality additions before they are ready to seriously compete for a European crown, with all eyes of manager Mauricio Pochettino this month.
The Argentine may not be on the lookout for established first-team stars however, with The Daily Mail live transfer update reporting at 13:04 that Spurs are eyeing up a move for young Coventry City midfielder, Tom Bayliss.
The 18-year-old starred in the Sky Blues’ shock FA Cup win over Stoke City on Saturday, with established Premier League stars Charlie Adam and Joe Allen failing to deal with the youngster’s pace, composure, and range of passing. Derby County are also said to be monitoring the player, with both Pochettino and Gary Rowett keen on the player this month.
Landlord’s Verdict: Not quite the big name Spurs fans may want this month, but a potentially solid addition to the set-up at Tottenham nonetheless. Bayliss has looked fantastic in League Two since breaking into the first-team set-up at Coventry in November, and his man-of-the-match performance against the Potters simply confirmed what scouts already knew.
If a deal can be secured for Bayliss this month and the player loaned back to Coventry for the rest of the season, Spurs will have one of the brightest prospects in the Football League on their hands, and will have no hesitation investing in the player, following the resounding success of Dele Alli since his signing from MK Dons in 2015.
Spurs fans, would Bayliss be a solid investment for the future? Let us know!
