Tottenham transfer target not for sale

hulk.jpgHere in the Football Transfer Tavern we’ve been interested to find out how Tottenham were set to spend the money generated from the impending sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

But the Evening Standard reports that Tottenham’s hopes of signing Zenit St Petersburg powerhouse Hulk look set to be dashed after the Russian Premier League club’s manager Luciano Spalleti inisisted that the Brazilian was not going to be sold.

Spurs were yesterday linked with a surprise swoop for the 27-year-old who played under Andre Villas-Boas at Porto and had netted 36 goals as the Portuguese outfit swept aside all before them in a memorable campaign.

Hulk made the switch to Russia last September in a mammoth £39.5 million deal but his time at Zenit has been a relative disappointment with only eight goals in 21 appearances and that has led to suggestions that he could be on the move this summer.

The forward will miss Zenit’s Champions League qualfying play-off against Pacos de Ferreira today with a hamstring injury but Spalletti is not willing to let him depart once he returns.

Speaking of the forward’s condition, Spalletti said: “He is recovering rapidly. But the exact date [of return], we can not tell you.

“He has exceptional muscle mass, it is difficult to predict anything.

“Let’s wait for the forecast of our doctors. And again, Hulk is not for sale.”

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has also been reportedly interested in the striker and could be willing to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The former Real Madrid coach has already beaten Spurs in the race for Willian this summer despite the attacking midfielder passing a medical at White Hart Lane.

If Hulk is no longer available, who should Tottenham turn to now? Let us know your thoughts below.
