There are some confused faces today in the Football Transfer Tavern after it was claimed by Metro that Tottenham may still miss out on Corinthians midfielder Paulinho.
It had been thought that a fee had been agreed for the player who Andre Villas-Boas placed at the top of his wishlist this summer, yet now the player himself has spoken out and claimed that he still has a say in his future and is currently undecided over where it lies.
Spurs made the decision to bid the £17 million it would take to talk to the player after several clubs displayed their interest including La Liga giants Real Madrid, and whilst yesterday we thought it could well be a done deal, it seems there are still a host of lose ends to tie up before Spurs get a player that has impressed in the Brazilian national team in recent times.
Paulinho himself spoke after Brazil’s Confederations Cup victory over Italy – which he missed with an ankle injury- noting: “There is an official offer from Tottenham to Corinthians.
“But, as I did when there was an Inter Milan offer, I’ll sit and decide with my family before I make any decision. I will only do it after the Confederations Cup because it’s hard to deal with all these things.”
