Tottenham want Chelsea star to solve their defensive issues

Ryan BertrandTottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are eagerly waiting to see how new boss Mauricio Pochettino spends his transfer funds.

And according to Metro, he plans on spending a percentage of it on bringing a new left back to White Hart Lane.

But before Spurs fans get too excited it’s not Southampton’s Luke Shaw, but instead Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand.

The left back spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Premier League club Aston Villa and is deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

That news comes despite the fact the West London club have let former England international Ashley Cole leave the club on a free after his contract ended.

Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old but now Spurs have reportedly taken over.

Pochettino was believed to of been interested in Bertrand as a replacement for Shaw at St. Mary’s but thinks he’ll fit in equally as well at Tottenham.

Many Tottenham fans in the tavern believe current first choice left back Danny Rose simply isn’t good enough, despite cracking a North London derby winning goal against Arsenal in 2010.

It is thought that an offer of £6 million for Bertrand could tempt Jose Mourinho’s hand as he looks to rejuvenate his Chelsea squad.

Tottenham fans. Do you think that Ryan Bertrand is good enough to make that left back position at White Hart Lane is own? Let us know your thoughts below.
