Tottenham Hotspur may have to address their defensive department in the summer transfer window, especially if Toby Alderweireld departs the club.
Mauricio Pochettino will have to find someone to replace him if he does go and it appears a name that has been on their radar in the past has cropped up once again.
What’s the News?
According to Takvim, Tottenham want to sign Domagoj Vida in the summer.
It is claimed that Pochettino has demanded that the club bring the World Cup finalist to north London at the end of the season, as he looks to strengthen his defence.
Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for Vida in the summer following a rather impressive World Cup campaign with Croatia and were believed to have made an offer of around £16million for him and it appears those links have not gone away.
However, with the possibility of Toby Alderweireld departing on the cards in the summer, it would not be a bad idea for Spurs to target the 29-year-old.
If the Belgium international were to leave, Pochettino would only have Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth and Jan Vertonghen available.
But, if they added the 71-time international, their defensive options would certainly have been strengthened in depth and quality. He is an exceptional enforcer that can provide some additional leadership at the back, whilst his ability to make a strong tackle can help fill the gap that Alderweireld would leave if he does depart from north London.
It is not just his defensive abilities that have made him a great player either, as he has shown that he can be an aerial threat in the opposition penalty area and provide their dead-ball specialists with a target.
Tottenham fans, what do you think of Vida? Do you think he would help to replace Alderweireld if the Belgium international leaves? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
