Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that Mauricio Pochettino will not be leaving the club for Real Madrid now the Spanish giants have dropped their interest.
The Argentine recently penned a new five-year deal before Zinedine Zidane announced he would be leaving the Bernabeu. Real Madrid are long-term admirers of Pochettino and their interest intensified following Zidane’s departure. The latest set of reports now indicate that they will pursue other targets.
With his future now cleared up, Pochettino can turn his attention to the transfer market. Reinforcements are needed if the Lilywhites are to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season. Securing Champions League football again will enable them to compete for the high calibre players.
Adding to his forward line in the summer will be a priority to lessen the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane. A new right-sided attacker to replace Erik Lamela would turn Spurs into title contenders. Pochettino should target Fiorentina winger – Federico Chiesa.
Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the Italian has enjoyed a superb season in the Serie A, scoring six goals and notching nine assists. The 20-year-old can play on either flank and loves to run at defenders. He has clever movement and a burst of pace that would make him a success in the Premier League.
Manchester City have held an interest in the youngster but he is unlikely to displace Raheem Sterling in the starting eleven which could give Tottenham the advantage in a race for his signature.
