There are interested faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by the Daily Mail that Tottenham are set to launch a bid for Barcelona’s David Villa.
The player has long been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou and given the fact that the club are also keen to sell Villa, a move could happen this summer. Barcelona are holding out for around £12 million for the forward who despite struggling for a first team place this season has still managed to find the net when he plays and is certainly still one of the most clinical finishers around.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is looking for a forward this season after admitting that not only do the club need reinforcements but that Emmanuel Adebayor is also set to leave – meaning that a striker is certainly top of the list for the North London club this summer. A sticking point could well be the fact that Spurs are looking to pay around £10 million for the former Valencia man whereas Barcelona are holding out for slightly more.
Villa himself is desperate for a move away from the club given the fact that the 2014 World Cup is around the corner, to get into the Spanish squad, he will need to be playing and scoring regularly. Arsenal have also been heavily linked with a move for the player and could revive their interest ahead of the summer.
Is Villa worth £12 million and will Spurs up the ante to sign him? Rate this rumour below.
