The Football Transfer Tavern’s player of the week Christian Benteke is set to stay at Aston Villa after Tottenham Hotspur were told to cough up £30million for his services this summer according to The Sun.
Villa owner Randy Lerner is not prepared to let his main man go and no club are going to spend £30 million on Benteke especially with contract talks already under way.
The Belgian striker has been a hero at Villa Park this season as the West Midlands club have battled relegation throughout, but a hat-trick on Monday night against Sunderland gave them a great chance of staying up.
Spurs are desperate to sign at least two strikers this summer after missing out on their targets in January, leaving Andre Villas-Boas with just an out of form Jermain Defoe and a seemingly disinterested Emmanuel Adebayor.
A deal to sign Brazilian Leandro Damiao could yet be on the cards but it seems that the Christian Benteke move is dead in the water.
Will Benteke remain at Aston Villa next season? Who will Spurs bring into the attack? Let us know your thoughts below.
