Tottenham have had a rollercoaster start to their 2018/19 campaign already, who knows what could lie ahead for Mauricio Pochettino and his men.
With the usual suspects like Harry Kane and co not performing to their fullest potential, Tottenham have gone from an electric start to not knowing whether their squad is deep enough to contest in all competitions they’re involved in.
That has to be a problem that is amended during the January transfer window and because of their alarming lack of depth in defence, Tottenham should really be looking at signing Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic.
Milenkovic, (who is valued at £13.5 million on Transfermarkt) is a player with great potential and he could go on to be a brilliant defender for Spurs.
The 20-year-old Serbian international has been bossing it in defence for the Italian club ever since arriving last summer. He appeared largely in the second half of the season making 16 Serie A appearances in total from centre-back and right-back.
This season, he is well on his way to playing a lot more than that, having played every single minute of Serie A football so far. In his eight games, he has played out of position in right back but has surprisingly popped up with two goals in that period.
Tottenham know very well that Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are both getting on in the years and, if one of them were to leave, Nikola Milenkovic would be an ideal replacement judging by his quick progression in Italy.
The 20-year-old is versatile and ready to learn, leading many to believe he could easily make the step up to playing for Tottenham.
