Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team take a step closer to another top four finish after easing past Watford 2-0 at Wembley on Monday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the Hertfordshire-based outfit having seen fifth place Chelsea beat Swansea City on Saturday to move to within two points of Spurs, thus piling the pressure on the North Londoners to respond at the national stadium. And Pochettino’s side did just that as goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane sealed a comfortable victory for Tottenham, thus moving them five points clear of the Blues with just three matches to play.
Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can get the job done in the final few weeks of the season to secure a third successive campaign of Champions League football.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that their club are interested in landing Ryan Bertrand this summer.
And with the future of Danny Rose far from certain heading into the close season, £18 million-rated Bertrand (as per Transfermarkt) seems to be perfect replacement for his England teammate.
Ultimately, Rose’s future as Spurs has been subject of speculation for a while now, pretty much ever since he did an interview with The Sun criticising the club’s transfer policy, and thus opening the door for a future move.
And with just seven Premier League appearances this season, and just seven in other competitions, the 27-year-old has struggled to displace Ben Davies in Pochettino’s starting eleven to suggest that his time in North London is highly likely to end this summer.
And who better to replace Rose than the man who has also displaced him as England’s number one left back in recent times.
Bertrand may not have enjoyed his best season this time round in a poor Southampton team, but he has proven over the last few years, thus evidenced by his subsequent rise up the England pecking order, that he is one of the best left backs in the Premier League.
Defensively, the 28-year-old is sound and disciplined, while he also offers a great deal going forward in getting into advanced areas and linking up well with the left winger – his final ball is pretty reliable as well.
And with some of our resident Spurs fans somewhat unconvinced about Davies’ capabilities on the biggest stages, there will be much fewer concerns with Bertrand, someone who produced a wonderful display on the biggest stage of all in helping Chelsea win the Champions League back in 2012.
As such, with Rose seemingly on his way out this summer, his 28-year-old England colleague Bertrand appears to be the perfect replacement for the left back at the North London outfit.
