Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their team move into the Premier League’s top four following a narrow 1-0 success over relegation contenders Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their meeting with the Eagles fifth in the table but just a point behind defending champions Chelsea, who faced Manchester United later on Sunday. And Spurs piled the pressure on the Blues as Harry Kane’s late header clinched a massive three points for the North London outfit at Selhurst Park, with the pressure possibly telling on Antonio Conte’s side as they fell to a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford, despite taking the lead through in-form Willian.
As such, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Telegraph, which suggests that a £35 million summer bid is in the offing for Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon, but it may not be enough.
The 17-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last 18 months or so, netting seven goals in 30 appearances for Slavisa Jokanovic’s men last term in their run to the Championship play-offs, yet managing an impressive 13 strikes already this time round to underline his incredible potential.
And with eight goals in his last nine league matches, the England Under-19 international continues to go from strength to strength, and as such continues to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in the land, with Manchester United and indeed Tottenham reportedly keen on the left-back.
And reports suggest that Spurs are preparing a £35 million summer bid for Sessegnon in a bid to lure him from Craven Cottage, but it’s a figure which may not be enough as Fulham are reportedly holding out for £50 million for one of the country’s brightest prospects.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen what direction this transfer saga takes during the summer months.
Landlord’s verdict: Ryan Sessegnon’s rise from relative unknown little under two years ago to one of England’s brightest stars has been remarkable, and things could be set to get even better for the 17-year-old.
And that’s because Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly keen on the left-sided ace, to the point that the latter are reportedly lining up a £35 million summer bid for the England Under-19 international.
And while that seems like a sizable sum of money, it may not be enough as Fulham are reportedly seeking £50 million for the 17-year-old, and Tottenham’s task may become even harder were Slavisa Jokanovic’s side to win promotion to the Premier League this season.
As such, it very much remains to be seen how this transfer saga concludes over the summer.
