Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased to see their former players lifting the Champions League trophy with Real Madrid – our punters are hoping it will be Harry Kane next year!
Real Madrid lifted their third consecutive European cup at the expense of Liverpool with Loris Karius’ mistakes costing the Reds two goals. An early injury to Mohamed Salah also came as a huge blow to Jurgen Klopp’s chances. The star of the show was former Spurs player Gareth Bale, who came off the bench to bag a brace including arguably the greatest goal in a Champions League final.
Speaking post-match, Bale refused to commit his future to the club stating he must be playing week in, week out. The Welsh international has been forced to the bench at times throughout the season with Karim Benzema preferred in the forward line.
Tottenham desperately need to strengthen their attacking options and lessen the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane’s shoulders if they are to challenge for the Premier League. Therefore, attempting to bring Bale back to North London makes perfect sense.
The Welshman enjoyed the best form of his career with the Lilywhites before earning his record-breaking move to Madrid. He is currently valued at £63m by Transfermarkt. With 21 goals in all competition, the ex-Southampton man has still enjoyed a fine season and would no doubt be a huge boost to Mauricio Pochettino.
He’s now won a stunning four Champions League titles over in the Spanish capital and, to round off his career, he should return to N17 and attempt to lead his former charges to a first Premier League title.
If Spurs are serious about challenging for the title, they must do all they can to bring Bale back to the Premier League.
