Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern could be preparing to say goodbye to one of their favourites if the player’s agent is to be believed.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to improve his side and make a number of additions to help Spurs compete across all competitions next season, yet he may have to consider selling one of his stars in the process.
And that’s because, according to reports in Belgium, Mousa Dembele’s agent has told Voetball Nieuws that his client has no intention of signing a new deal to remain at the North London club, thus plunging his future at the club into huge doubt.
The midfielder currently has another year left on his contract, yet the news could mean Tottenham may have to sell him on now should they want to get a good transfer fee for him, as opposed to let him leave for a free in 12 months’ time.
His agent told Voetball Nieuws: ‘Mousa has another one year contract with Tottenham, he has played a fantastic season and there is a lot going on around him, there is a lot of interest inside and outside of Europe, we are waiting for the World Cup and I hope he plays in Russia, because he deserves that after such a peak season.
‘For the moment Mousa will not sign.’
And these comments are likely to frustrate and indeed concern many of our resident Tottenham fans, as they have seen Dembele play an influential role in their success in recent times, and would thus be gutted to see him leave this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The news will be damaging to Spurs, and the locals will be disappointed to hear that the midfielder will not agree to a new deal, in the meantime at least.
Many of the punters will feel that because of the timing of the comments that it is no surprise, especially with the World Cup around the corner, and will be hoping they can convince him to commit his future with the club once the tournament is over.
