Tottenham cruised into the next round of the FA Cup after demolishing Tranmere Rovers 7-0 at Prenton Park.
Fernando Llorente grabbed a hat-trick and a brace from Serge Aurier settled the tie. However, Spurs weren’t slowing down with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane also getting on the scoresheet late on. Mauricio Pochettino was able to rest a number of key players and still progress to the next round of the competition which Spurs fans will be extremely pleased about.
The Lilywhites are still in the Premier League title race and have the opportunity to strengthen their squad now the January transfer window is officially open. With Kieran Trippier struggling for form at right-back, landing a new full back could prove to be a wise move by Pochettino and the scouting department. Adding more competition could help the England international return to his brilliant best.
One man they could target is Monaco full-back – Almamy Toure. Valued at just £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the defender was promoted to the first-team back in 2015 after successfully graduating through the club’s youth academy. Toure helped his side lift a Ligue 1 title under Leonardo Jardim but slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Benjamin Henrichs. With the French side languishing at the wrong end of the table, his time in France could be coming to an end.
Toure is a solid defender who loves to get stuck in, averaging an incredible 3.3 tackles per game in Ligue 1 this season. The Malian also reads the game expertly, completing 2.8 interceptions per game in the current campaign. The 22-year-old is still developing and improving – he would flourish under Pochettino’s tutelage in north London.
With his contract expiring in the summer, Tottenham could secure his services on the cheap making this move a no-brainer.
