After the news that Jack Grealish will not be sold by Aston Villa, Spurs should turn their attention to Anthony Martial.
Martial has been consistently linked with Spurs throughout the transfer window, as part of a deal that would see Toby Alderweireld going the other way.
The French 22-year-old endured a tough season in 2017/18, as Jose Mourinho seemed to overlook him, which culminated in him missing out on France’s World Cup squad. He would be wanting a quick exit from Man United, where his career started so promisingly, and Pochettino may be the man to get him firing again.
Spurs have needed a player of his style and calibre for the last couple of seasons. There were times last year where Spurs struggled to unlock defences that decided to sit back. The Lillywhites were caught passing the ball from side to side at the edge of the box with no penetration. The addition of Martial, alongside Lucas Moura, could solve those problems.
Whilst Jack Grealish would have been a great signing for Spurs, he may not have been able to bring anything to the club that the likes of Eriksen and Alli could not.
Martial, on the other hand, would provide a different attacking dimension, pace and an ability to take defenders on. This would add another string to Tottenham’s bow and could prove beneficial against those difficult defences they faced last year.
Spurs are still yet to sign anyone this window, and they have certainly left it late, but Martial would be a perfect fit.
