The end to the summer window was really rather entertaining for the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern, despite the fact they were inactive for swathes of it.
Indeed, the signings of Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente have excited our north London locals, who believe they’re well placed to mount another title challenge.
However, reports from the Sun have given them cause for concern. They’ve revealed that star defender Toby Alderweireld has urged the club to hand him a new deal amid interest from other big European clubs.
One of the best defenders on the continent, the Belgian is under contract until 2020, though is said to want improved terms after two stunning seasons for Spurs.
His father, Vic, and fellow advisor Stijn Francis are thought to have approached those behind the scenes at Tottenham in that regard, though one has not yet materialised.
“When you look at Toby’s statistics, they are impressive”, said Francis.
Either he deserves an appropriate contract, or else he should be given a transfer.
“Seven or eight big European clubs are interested in signing him.
“There are not many central defenders around who can play like he can.
“But these clubs will have to negotiate with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy.”
It’s imperative Tottenham keep the Belgium star, though it’s easy to see Levy selling.
