The Daily Star have today reported that Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid are planning a £100million swoop for not only Bale, but midfielder Luka Modric.
It seems unlikely that Madrid would fund such an audacious bid, but it would certainly take that sort of crazy money to allow Tottenham to even consider the option.
Bale has continually reaffirmed his happiness at White Hart Lane and Luka Modric is enjoying some of his most inspired football in North London.
Furthermore, it would seem unlikely that Mourinho would be granted £100million to chase two midfielders come the summer when the Portuguese manager’s requests for a much needed striker have constantly been rebuffed.
Mourinho has been frustrated in his search for a new forward since the injury to first choice striker, Gonzalo Higuain. Karim Benzema has struggled for form this season and Madrid have had to rely on goals from their wingers and midfielders in their challenge for the La Liga title.

Mourinho’s future at Real has been questioned considering the power struggle he faces in Madrid and if there is any truth in the rumour, it may have come from above their Portuguese manager.
One thing is for certain though, Welsh international, Bale, will be hot property in the summer and Tottenham may face a real tussle to hold onto their man. Should they give in and allow the 21-year-old to leave the North London outfit, any future title challenge may fall by the way side. If Spurs want to really become a force in world football, they need to hold onto their key players, such a statement of intent can help attract new signings and help build for the future.
Simply put, it would be madness for Spurs to sell any of their first team in the summer.
