The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to be drawn against Newport County in the FA Cup last night and many of those propping up our bar believe Mauricio Pochettino can make a real go for it this season.
Still, as many of our local Lillywhites are well aware, the January transfer window is not a time for a cup dream, more one to read as many rumours and reports as humanly possible. With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mirror have peaked the interest of some of our north London locals.
According to their report, Spurs’ apparent £50m valuation of England international Danny Rose has put Premier League rivals Manchester United off making a move. The 27-year-old had been touted as a target at Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his full-back positions, though the sky-high asking price reportedly in play down Wembley way looks like scuppering any move for now.
While Rose, following his previous outbursts in the media, may not be the most popular figure amongst the Tottenham faithful, the idea of keeping him all season is a very promising one for the punters in our bar.
It does seem as if Rose will leave Tottenham in the summer and, considering the sort of fees bandied about for him in the press, you’d have to say it’s a good deal for Spurs. If they can bring a young and talented replacement, he won’t be missed all too much, despite his current importance to the side.
