Big boost for Tottenham with lynchpin available for crunch Newcastle United clash

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling nervous ahead of tonight’s showdown with Newcastle United at Wembley. Indeed, while it’s a game Mauricio Pochettino’s side should win fairly easily, the nature of their recent performances have scared our local Lillywhites somewhat.

Just two points separate Tottenham from their bitter rivals Chelsea heading into the final few games of the campaign and a place in the top four is certainly at stake. With that in mind, the visit of the Magpies to London this evening provides a chance for Spurs to seal the deal, or mess it up even further.

So, our north London locals are desperate for some good news. It’s vital that Pochettino has his strongest squad from which to choose heading into tonight’s clash so news from Ben Dinnery on Twitter has gone down a storm amongst the supporters.

As he reveals, Jan Vertonghen is cleared for action tonight after limping off during Spurs’ loss to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday, giving everyone involved with the club a major boost. The Belgian has been vital to Spurs this season and his stoic presence in central defence for a huge game has calmed a few nerves here in the Tavern.

Though Newcastle aren’t the most prolific, they have recorded big wins over the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United this season and do have previous in smashing Spurs late on in a Premier League campaign. So, with Vertonghen now able to partner Davinson Sanchez, our local LiLlywhites are feeling all the more confident.
