Mauricio Pochettino should have money to use in January following a quiet summer transfer window at Tottenham.

Spurs made history by becoming the first side since the transfer window was introduced in 2003 not to make a single signing. However, the Lilywhites did manage to keep all of their key players at the club enabling them to build on a top-four finish in the Premier League last season. Following a draw with Barcelona last week, Spurs were able to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League against all the odds.

The draw in Barcelona can give Spurs a platform to build on during the busy festive period. The January transfer window is now less than a month away, and Pochettino would be wise to bolster his options in the New Year.

One man who could prove to be an inspired addition is Celta Vigo wonderkid – Brais Mendez. Valued at just £5.4m by Transfermarkt, the youngster is a graduate of the Celta youth academy and now enjoys a prominent role in the first-team. Mendez has been crucial in La Liga this season, starting ten games, scoring five as well as registering four assists for his team-mates.

Blessed with excellent dribbling skills, the 21-year-old is a constant menace to Spanish defences and uses his low centre of gravity to his advantage. The Spaniard also has the vision and quality of passing to unlock defences, averaging two key passes per game this season, meaning he would lower the creative burden on the shoulders of Christian Eriksen in the engine room (WhoScored). His impressive showings have not gone unnoticed with Mendez receiving a call-up to the senior Spanish national team in recent months.

Landing this starlet’s signature in January would give Spurs a welcome boost in 2019.
