Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Serie A champions Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men made the trip to Turin off the back of beating North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, a result which extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 matches. Yet they made a disastrous start on Tuesday as a Gonzalo Higuain brace gave Juve a 2-0 lead after just nine minutes, but the visitors hit back brilliantly with goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen to secure a draw from the encounter, leaving them favourites to progress to the last eight when the two sides meet at Wembley in three weeks’ time.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are unlikely to be too pleased by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that midfielder Mousa Dembele is attracting interest from China, whose transfer window doesn’t close until the end of the month.
The 30-year-old made the move to Spurs back in 2012 and has since played a hugely influential role in their rise up the division, making 225 appearances for Pochettino’s side, in which time he has bagged ten goals.
Injuries have somewhat thwarted the Belgium international but when he is at his peak, like against Juventus on Tuesday, he is certainly one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, yet he has just 18 months left on his current deal with the North London outfit.
As such, Chinese Super League side Beijing Sinobo Guoan are reportedly targeting a move for the former Fulham star, in a deal which could well take place by the end of the month given the Chinese transfer window remains open until February 28.
But whether they can indeed tempt Dembele away from Tottenham between now and then very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Mousa Dembele produced a midfield masterclass to help Tottenham come from behind and secure a 2-2 draw with Juventus on Tuesday night, furthering the widely held view that he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
And it appears that Chinese Super League club Beijing Sinobo Guoan are keen on luring the 30-year-old away from North London, with the club reportedly targeting a move for the Belgium international in the final two weeks of their transfer window.
Thus, a move could well be in the offing for the influential ace in the coming weeks, but with things certainly looking up at Spurs ahead of the rest of the season, manager Mauricio Pochettino is surely not going to want to let Dembele leave before the end of February.
