Compromise expected over fee but Tottenham may still struggle to complete deal

Though the Tottenham Hotspur fans aren’t as cut up about Kyle Walker’s recent departure as you might think, they are pretty desperate to see Mauricio Pochettino bring in some players.

After such a wonderful campaign last time out, the local Lillywhites propping up the bar were hoping to see some early signings given time to settle in on Hotspur Way ahead of next term. So, the fact there’s been pretty much no movement on the incoming front has left a lot to be desired.

With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mirror have sparked intrigue. They claim Ross Barkley is keen on a move to north London from Everton, though Spurs have reportedly baulked at his wage demands in order to do so.

The 23-year-old midfielder is understood to be wanting a whopping £150k-p/w to join Tottenham, more money than the likes of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris are thought to be on. For their part, Everton are believed to value the England international at around £50m, though a compromise on the fee is said to be expected.

Still, Barkley will surely have to drop his apparent demands to join Spurs. Not only would he supposedly break the wage structure, many of the drinkers in our bar don’t believe he’s worth such a fee.

Few would doubt his quality, though he’s struggled to wholly convince of late, so our punters would like to see him join on a cheaper deal.
