Now into the international break, the Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their star players return in full fitness. Indeed, with the north London derby up next for Spurs, they really need everyone ready to play.
With Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks all dropping out of the England squad, our local Lillywhites are happy to see them avoid more injuries ahead of their huge trip to Arsenal. Still, it’s not all good news for our resident Spurs fans.
According to the Daily Mirror, the club are sweating on the fitness of Jan Vertonghen. The defender is away on international duty with Belgium, though will reportedly not feature against Mexico due to an injury. With Toby Alderweireld also a concern, these are nervous times.
Vertonghen is a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s solid backline and his absence would be a notable one, especially if his compatriot joins him on the sidelines for the short trip to the Emirates.
Tottenham really need Vertonghen around. The Belgian is such a key figure for the side and his leadership qualities would be a huge miss for one of the club’s biggest games all season.
