According to a recent report from France Football, Tottenham are interested in a January move for contract rebel Adrien Rabiot. The 23-year-old currently plays his football at Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain having come up through the ranks at the Parc des Princes, but with his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, his future appears almost certainly to be away from the French capital.

And a recent report from France Football suggests that Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs are eyeing up a move for the midfielder this month in a bid to bolster their options in the middle of the park, with 23-year-old Rabiot potentially the game-changing addition needed to replace Mousa Dembele at the North London club.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 31-year-old Dembele made the move to Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou R&F earlier in the January transfer window to thus bring his six-and-a-half year stint at Tottenham to an end, in which time the Belgium international more than proved his worth as an excellent Premier League midfielder.

The former Fulham man appeared 249 times in all competitions for Pochettino’s side and as such played a key part in helping them ascend to become one of the best teams in the country, with Dembele himself becoming one of the most underrated central midfielders in the Premier League at times during his spell in North London.

And with the 31-year-old possessing everything required to succeed in that role in the English top-flight, Spurs have lost a huge asset in the middle of the park and one they certainly need to replace - quite simply, the current options at Pochettino’s disposal aren’t quite the all round midfielder that Dembele was.

And that is why a move for contract rebel Rabiot, who is almost certain to be leaving PSG this year, is a deal chairman Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy must strike this month to thus equip Pochettino with that perfect Dembele replacement.

The 23-year-old may have seen regular football become increasingly difficult under Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks such is his contract stand-off with the French giants, but the midfielder has otherwise appeared 227 times for the Ligue 1 leaders over the years, in which time he has helped the club win four league titles, as well as a whole host of other domestic honours.

And the young midfielder has made a name for himself in possessing the key traits needed to succeed in the middle of the park, be it great composure when on the ball under pressure, as well as the ability to pick a pass and launch attacks.

Add in the fact that he is excellent at breaking up play and thus thwarting opposition attacks, and he appears to have everything that Dembele had during his time at the North London club.

But Spurs have now been left with a big Dembele-sized void in the centre of the pitch that certainly needs filling if they are to sustain a challenge for major honours in the years to come, with Rabiot appearing to be the ideal man to replace the hugely influential Belgian.
