The England fans in the Transfer Tavern were thankful for a certain Harry Kane over the course of the weekend, with the Tottenham Hotspur star spearheading the Three Lions.
Without the Spurs ace, Gareth Southgate’s side would have suffered one of their most embarrassing losses since, well, Iceland, and the 23-year-old impressed as a stand-in skipper.
So, with that in mind, reports from the Sun have gone down well amongst our north London locals. They claim the forward is ready to replace Wayne Rooney as the national captain on a full-time basis, heading into a World Cup year.
An announcement may not be made until next season, though the report seems pretty certain Kane will take the armband, after impressing Gareth Southgate.
With Rooney having been dropped out of the most recent squad, many of the punters propping up the bar believe a new dawn is coming ahead of Russia 2018. Despite having been here before with England, optimism certainly abounds around our bar.
Though Kane’s first game as skipper could have gone better, the Tottenham fans propping up our bar are delighted for their academy graduate.
