The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering where their team goes from here. Indeed, few would doubt the fact that Spurs have been one of the most impressive outfits in Europe over recent seasons, though appear to have hit somewhat of a glass ceiling.
In fact, Tottenham are in a difficult situation right now. They boast a vast array of talented players all over the park and not many managers would be jumping at the chance to replace any of them heading into the summer window. While some of them may be tempted away for more money, there’s a strange question in play here, how exactly do Tottenham improve?
It’s time for Spurs to think outside the box. Their most promising project in years has been built on hard work, logical thinking and embracing Mauricio Pochettino’s philosophy when it comes to developing young players. Obviously, that’s worked wonders thus far, though if things are going to change in N17, there needs to be some creative thinking.
That’s why we recently asked our punters whether or not they’d back a move for Manchester City defender, John Stones. As you can imagine, our question did provoke a rather boisterous reaction amongst sections of supporters, though with Toby Alderweireld likely to depart, Spurs will need to replace him.
Interestingly, as you’ll see through the results of our poll, 58% of voters would actually back a move for Stones this summer.
Stones may have his problems but in a team more likely to defend as a solid unit, rather somewhere like City where quick transitions can wreak havoc for their backline after an opponent breaks through their high press, the former Everton man could look a lot better.
With Aymeric Laporte having joined and suggestions that City themselves are keen on Alderweireld, it could actually prove to be a clever move for all parties, despite the warranted scepticism amongst some of our readers.
If there’s one man to truly get the best out of Stones, it’s Pochettino.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
