Well, that was some opening. Tottenham finally made their highly anticipated return home and marked it with an important victory that leaves them confident of a top-four finish. Indeed, it’s not been the best few weeks as a supporter, but life is starting to look good again.
Work for Mauricio Pochettino and his staff is far from over yet with the new stadium now up and running, it may just provide the lift that everyone needed. Clearly, if the same time and effort can be put into Tottenham’s transfer business over the summer as well, then fans can expect a lot to look forward to.
All the season still has just over a month left to go, Spurs have been linked with an almighty number of players.
One report from Football Insider is suggesting that Tottenham are interested in raiding Ajax this summer, with midfielder Donny Van De Beek being one of those targets.
Van de Beek, (who is valued at £22.5 million on Transfermarkt) has been partnered next to Frenkie De Jong all season and has arguably gone under the radar because of his team-mates raging success. However, Tottenham seem to be one of few that haven’t overlooked him and that could leave them with a good chance of securing his signature in the summer.
Whilst all the concentration has been on their other stars, Van de Beek has quietly got on with his own business and scored 12 goals as well as laying on nine assists. What a signing he’d be. Talented, young enough to learn under Pochettino and someone boasting a huge sell-on value, the Dutchman could follow in Christian Eriksen’s impressive footsteps by moving from the Dutch capital.
Tottenham’s midfield has been a problematic area this season due to a mix of general inconsistency and then injuries as well. So, bringing in a tactically astute young property such as the 21-year-old makes total sense, someone who can play good football between the lines and fit seamlessly into an already hugely varied attacking frontline.
Indeed, with the addition of a player like Donny Van de Beek, Tottenham would not only have another option but one that could be an extremely good player in the future.
Do you agree Tottenham should sign Van de Beek? If not, why not? Let us know!
