Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, and their fans in the Transfer Tavern will already be getting a taste of who could come into the North London club.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is rumoured to be looking to add defensive recruits as he expects to lose Toby Alderweireld, and has seemingly been identifying the targets he would like Spurs to go after.
And, according to reports in The Daily Express, he has shortlisted Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand and Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson as potential summer additions.
Saints defender Bertrand is seen as an ideal solution should Danny Rose leave, as the England full-back is thought to be unhappy with Pochettino, with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United reportedly monitoring the situation.
Spurs are believed to want around £50 million for the wantaway left-back, whilst the South Coast side would be prepared to let former Chelsea youngster Bertrand leave St Mary’s for approximately £25 million, a potential deal which could well become a lot easier for Tottenham were the Saints to lose their Premier League status in the coming weeks.
Highly-rated Mawson is also high on the Argentine’s list of transfer targets, with the central defender expected to attract plenty of interest from a number of top clubs in the Premier League – however, Swansea have placed a £40 million price tag on him to try and deter suitors.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Tottenham fans in the Tavern will be encouraged by the transfer activity that Pochettino is considering taking, especially with his proven ability to develop players further.
The locals will hope they can add the defensive stars to their squad as they look to strengthen ahead of the next campaign, a campaign which several of our resident Spurs supporters hope will yield some silverware.
