Enquiries Made For Stuttgart Star

Serdar Tasci

Don't mention the war

A German! Tottenham want to sign a German on the eve of our epic clash with Deutschland in Bloemfontein tomorrow afternoon.

Yes Serdar Tasci is currently on international duty in South Africa as an integral part of Joachim Low’s squad. His club Stuttgart have slapped a £17m price tag on the 23-year-old defender which we can assume will fluctuate wildly depending on Germany’s (and therefore England’s) fate this summer. After all who would want the sign a man who helped dump the Three Lions out of the World Cup?

As he wrestles with his conscience, Harry Redknapp will be licking his lips at the prospect of signing a man who he hopes can keep the likes of Gerrard, Rooney and Joe Cole in check not just tomorrow but on a weekly basis in the Premiership. The Spurs boss will have to lock horns with Juventus and their manager Luigi Del Neri, however, if he is to secure the Bundesliga star’s signature.

He is an exciting prospect and lifted the German title with Stuttgart in only his first season as a professional in 2007. Tasci is regarded as Germany’s great defensive hope and has been singled out as a prototype modern defender by both Joachim Low and Franz Beckenbauer – although we can disregard most of what is said by the latter.

Spurs’ fans may have mixed feelings tomorrow and although I personally hope that Tasci has some unfortunate accident that renders his legs entirely useless this weekend, they can look forward to a pretty useful addition should he make the move to North London this summer.
