Forget Liverpool: This £9m-rated attacker should opt for Pochettino’s Tottenham instead

Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last week or so after seeing their team edge closer to a first major trophy since 2008 courtesy of a 3-0 win over Swansea City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their meeting with the South Wales outfit back on March 17 having got past AFC Wimbledon, Newport County, and Rochdale in the previous rounds, although they needed replays to get past the latter two EFL clubs. Nonetheless, there were no such concerns for the North London club at the Liberty Stadium as a double from Christian Eriksen alongside Erik Lamela’s second goal of the campaign secured a comfortable victory for Pochettino’s side, thus earning them a semi-final date with Manchester United at Wembley next month.

As such, there have been many buoyant Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are sincerely hoping that their side can finally end their decade-long wait for some silverware by going on to win the FA Cup this season.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking Norwich City’s James Maddison with a move to North London.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have also been linked with the attacker, yet the £9 million-rated starlet (as per Transfermarkt) simply must forget about a move to Anfield, and instead opt for Pochettino’s Tottenham if he is to go on and fulfil his potential.

Ultimately, the Spurs chief has a proven track-record of giving young players, specifically English players, an opportunity in the first team, with the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, and more recently Harry Winks developing under the Argentine’s guidance.

In fact, the first three look set to play a key part in the future of both Tottenham and indeed England, with Alli arguably one of the best youngsters in the Premier League, Dier able to perform efficiently in midfield or at the back, and Kane one of the most lethal strikers in world football.

And Pochettino deserves immense credit for giving these stars the platform from which to perform – all three have since taken their chance and look set for big things in the coming years.

And that must be of interest to Norwich’s Maddison.

There aren’t many top clubs in the Premier League in which an England Under-21 star, who has never played in the division before, would get the chance in the first team, but Pochettino would give him that chance at Spurs – he did so with the likes of Luke Shaw at Southampton, and indeed the aforementioned quartet at Tottenham.

And given the plethora of attacking talent available to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, those opportunities might not be as forthcoming at Anfield were Maddison to make the move to Merseyside.

Thus, the 21-year-old should forget about moving to Liverpool, and instead opt to link up with the highly-rated Pochettino and his forward-thinking Tottenham side.
