Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the remainder of the summer transfer window, having already secured the services of manager Mauricio Pochettino on a long-term deal.
The former Southampton boss took over at the North London outfit back in 2014 and has since led the club to three successive top four finishes in the Premier League, with a third place effort to show from this campaign. And while the Argentine has yet to end the club’s trophy drought, many of our resident Spurs supporters are confident and optimistic that he is indeed the man to lead them to some silverware in the near future having agreed a new five-year deal with the North Londoners.
But to do so, it appears that Tottenham are in need of additions this summer, and one man they have been repeatedly linked with in recent times is Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, as Spurs reportedly go in search of a ‘marquee’ signing this summer.
And while the 22-year-old without doubt has much potential to go on and become an outstanding attacker, they should forget about him, as £67.5 million-rated ace Isco (as per Transfermarkt) is the marquee signing Spurs must seek this summer.
Ultimately, while Martial made a fast start to life in English football upon arrival back in 2015, the last few seasons have been far from impressive from the France international, with the forward often unable to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven on a regular basis.
As such, it remains to be seen what impact Martial would have on this Spurs team were he to make the move to North London, whereas there are no such doubts about Real Madrid’s Isco, who has certainly been one of the most impressive attackers in Europe in recent times.
The Spain international scored nine goals and laid on ten assists for Zinedine Zidane’s men this season to help them to another Champions League crown, alongside a third place finish in La Liga.
And with 11 goals and ten assists last season, the 26-year-old has excelled at the highest level for a while now, although was linked with a move away from the Bernabeu last year such was his limited game time under manager Zidane.
And while that appears to have picked up in recent times, those doubts remain ahead of the summer given the likely overhaul of the playing squad this summer – and Spurs simply have to pounce.
Clearly, any team in the Premier League would benefit from Isco’s presence in their starting eleven, not least a Tottenham side that can sometimes be bereft of ideas in the final third in the biggest matches, the United FA Cup semi-final for example.
Yet Isco’s arrival, with his incredible eye for a pass and ability to find pockets of space very few others can see, would give them another edge in the attacking third of the pitch, not least providing stern competition for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to continue producing the goods.
Thus, while Martial would likely be a fine addition, Isco is the marquee signing Tottenham must seek to make during the close season.
