According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou could well be on his way out of Tottenham this summer. The 23-year-old only made the move to North London back in 2016 but has since struggled to command regular football under Mauricio Pochettino, to the point that he was actually shipped out on loan to fellow Premier League side Burnley in the second half of last season.
And reports suggest that German outfit Mainz are keen on the £6.3 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) Spurs outcast, but with the winger having yet to reportedly make a decision regarding the move, he must seek to take a leaf out of Ademola Lookman’s book and make the move to the Bundesliga.
Ultimately, like N’Koudou, Everton’s Lookman was struggling for regular football at Goodison Park last season, earning just 16 first team appearances for the Toffees in the first half of the campaign, of which only five were starts.
And while manager at the time Sam Allardyce wasn’t keen on sending him out on loan to RB Leipzig, the England Under-20 World Cup winner insisted and thus earned a move to the German top-flight side, for whom he then went on the produce the goods.
Lookman netted five goals and laid on four assists in just 11 appearances for the Bundesliga club to underline his quality and indeed the huge potential he has to go on and become an excellent attacker – having the platform to perform enabled him to prove his worth.
Thus, there is no doubting that a short stint in Germany last season has seriously progressed Lookman’s career – the same could well happen with Spurs N’Koudou.
The Frenchman made the move to Tottenham two years ago after impressing at Ligue 1 heavyweights Marseille, but he has made just 23 senior appearances for the North London outfit, only nine of which have come in the Premier League.
In fact, the 23-year-old was so low down on Pochettino’s pecking order that the Argentine shipped him out on loan to Sean Dyche’s Burnley in the second half of last season, but just eight appearances for the Lancashire-based outfit underlines that maybe he isn’t quite ready to command regular football in the English top-flight.
Yet Lookman’s time in Germany suggests that there is success to be had in the Bundesliga, and with N’Koudou clearly a very talented young player after a decent pre-season with Spurs, there is no reason why he can’t go on and produce the goods with regular football under his belt.
Thus, the former France Under-21 international must take a leaf out of Lookman’s book by making the move to the Bundesliga this month.
