Good news for Tottenham fans with club reportedly confident of £30m deal

Yet to make any signings at all, the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see movement made on that front as soon as possible.

While the local Lillywhites propping up our bar do believe their first-team is good enough to battle the Premier League’s elite, they would like to see some reinforcements brought in to aid their cause.

With that in mind, a story from Bleacher Report has gone down a storm today. Dean Jones has shed some insight onto the club’s reported chase for Everton and England midfielder, Ross Barkley.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Hotspur Way though the Toffees are understood to be asking for a whopping £50m. Now, according to this report, Spurs are the front runners when it comes to taking Barkley away from Goodison Park, despite recent links with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly a big fan of the creative midfielder, though sources close to Tottenham are said to think the player will be available for around £30m towards the end of the window.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman recently revealed the player would be sold after snubbing a new deal and Spurs are thought to be in command of the situation. As you can imagine, despite Barkley’s inconsistency, this is very good news for our resident Spurs fans.

Landlord’s Verdict

Barkley’s next move is vitally important. Though clearly a talented player, he’s stagnated somewhat on Merseyside and doesn’t look like embarking on the upward trajectory predicted for him by so many.

A move to Tottenham could change all that. While he wouldn’t instantly command a starting berth, Pochettino boasts a wonderful record when working with English talent and could potentially unlock his huge potential.
