According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Tottenham have ‘won the race’ to land Aston Villa sensation Jack Grealish this summer. The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine season for the Championship club last time round to prompt much interest in his services, yet it looks like Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs are in pole position to seal a deal for the highly-rated young Englishman.

And with the race seemingly won for the attacker, Tottenham must now turn their attentions to sealing a deal for fellow sensation Matthijs de Ligt, valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Spurs boss Pochettino has an excellent track record of nurturing and developing young players during his time at both Tottenham and indeed Southampton, with the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Harry Kane all shining under his stewardship at the former to become key players for club and country.

Add in Luke Shaw’s emergence at St Mary's under the 46-year-old, and Spurs under his stewardship is rapidly becoming a hugely desirable place for young players to ply their trade, with Grealish seemingly the next one hoping to fulfil his potential at the North London club.

And with he seeking to fulfil his undoubted potential at Spurs, Pochettino must seek to bring in another youngster who also seems set for big things in the game, namely Ajax’s de Ligt.

The 18-year-old has shot to prominence in the last few years in becoming a regular for the Dutch giants, with the centre back featuring 62 times for the Eredivisie outfit since his senior debut back in September 2016.

And his mightily impressive efforts have seen him already earn seven caps at international level for the Netherlands, at the same time prompting huge interest in his services given his capabilities in both the present, and indeed the future.

And with Tottenham likely to lose Toby Alderweireld this summer, alongside the fact that Jan Vertonghen will turn 32 next year, Pochettino may well be thinking about the long term at the North London club, what with 21-year-old Davinson Sanchez excelling since his move from, ironically, Ajax 12 months ago.

Thus, with the race seemingly won for Villa’s Grealish, Spurs must now seek to follow that up with a move for another sensation, namely Ajax’s de Ligt.
