These are nervous times for the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern, despite their excellent last few weeks as a club. Indeed, the main thing for the Spurs fans in our bar is that players return from international duty fully fit.
That’s because Mauricio Pochettino takes his side across to the Emirates on Saturday for the first north London derby of the campaign in what is a huge game for both sides. Surely nothing less than a win will do for Spurs if they really are going to keep the pace with Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
With that in mind, a report from Sky Sports has gone down well amongst our local Lillywhites. They reveal Mousa Dembele is winning his race to be fit for the game, after suffering foot and hip injuries during the course of the campaign thus far.
“My injury is much better. I played 45 minutes in the last game (against Crystal Palace) so it is good” he said.
”Of course, I want to be playing for the team and adding my value but right now I am very optimistic and feel good.
“For us every game is important but we know there is some extra vibe the for this kind of game (v Arsenal), it’s very important for us.
After playing the second half against Crystal Palace at Wembley before the break, it seems the influential Belgian midfielder is in line to make his first start in almost two months, much to the delight of the Spurs fans in our bar.
What a boost for Tottenham ahead of one of their biggest games of the campaign. A fully fit Dembele makes such a difference to their side and, against a fluid Arsenal attack, he really could improve their chances of a big win at the Emirates.
