The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to see Harry Kane score at Wembley last night as the Spurs hero sent England through to the World Cup.
While it was largely an awful game for the Three Lions, Kane being in the goals at his temporary club home is always very good news indeed. So, the punters propping up the bar are certainly in a good mood right now.
With that in mind, reports from Sky Sports have gone down particularly well.
They’ve revealed that Toby Alderweireld is happy in north London, despite the fact he’s yet to agree a new deal with the club. Much has been made about the Belgian’s future amongst our north London locals, with the 28-year-old previously linked with Manchester City.
Undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the Premier League, the former Atletico Madrid man’s representatives recently urged top brass at Tottenham to sort him out a new contract, though the player himself has claimed he’s happy with life at the club he joined three seasons ago now.
“I had a good conversation with the manager”, he said.
”I told him I’m focused on football, to keep my game up and help the team.
“That’s all I can do. You can see I’m happy there, and I try to help the team, and that’s the way I always play football.”
Losing Alderweireld would be a nightmare for Tottenham, so it’s important they keep him happy. Thriving alongside Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, the defender is a huge part of Mauricio Pochettino’s set up, so it’s vital that Daniel Levy prevents his eyes from wandering.
