England’s World Cup run is over following a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in the semi-final.

Gareth Southgate’s side reunited the country, and everyone is proud of their efforts. They exceeded expectations by reaching the final four of the competition and Three Lions fans can finally get excited about future tournaments.

Tottenham players were at the forefront of England’s success. Despite their elimination, Harry Kane remains in the lead for the golden boot after bagging six goals. Kieran Trippier also starred at right back and proved Spurs got the better end of the deal after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

If Toby Alderweireld leaves the club this summer, Mauricio Pochettino would be wise to move for another of England’s heroes, Leicester City defender – Harry Maguire. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old has delighted fans with his performances in Russia and has become a cult hero back home.

Maguire was a defensive rock at the tournament and was a huge threat from set-pieces. His forward-thinking defending has been a breath of fresh air in the England back line. Maguire’s ability on the ball is extremely rare for a defender with his stature.

Tottenham averaged the second most possession in the Premier League last season, making the former Hull defender a perfect fit for Pochettino’s system. Maguire also excelled in a three-man partnership with England, exactly what the Argentine uses at White Hart Lane.

He wouldn’t be cheap but landing Maguire would definitely be worth it.

Tottenham fans, thoughts?
