Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for further business to be concluded following their relatively quiet summer- although they’re split on their opinion on this recruit.
French outlet L’Equipe report that Paris Saint-Germain full-back Serge Aurier is just a work permit away from a move to North London, having reportedly already passed a medical with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Potentially arriving for a fee of £23m, Aurier would arrive with plenty of baggage from his time in the French capital- including a charge of assault that saw him unable to travel to tackle Arsenal in the Champions League last season and puts his work permit application in risk.
Tottenham have a void to fill on their right-hand side following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City in the summer, especially with Kieran Trippier still injured, but 20-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters has impressed and earned himself a lucrative new deal earlier this week.
The 24-year-old has also attracted the interest of Manchester United this summer but a move to Jose Mourinho’s side will see him encounter the same issues.
A deal for Serge Aurier would certainly be controversial and that’s something Mauricio Pochettino should look to avoid. Whilst he is a top-class player, his assault charge last September is not the only incident to have caused issue.
Behind the scenes at PSG there is whispers of a fall-out with manager Unai Emery and a player like Aurier could disrupt the positive atmosphere Spurs have worked so hard to build behind the scenes. For the sake of the club, they can hope these reports are false.
