Tottenham supporters have been slightly downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team only muster a 2-2 draw away with League One strugglers Rochdale in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the third tier’s bottom club off the back of drawing 2-2 with Italian giants Juventus in the Champions League a few days earlier, a result which stands them in good stead for qualification to the last eight. Yet Spurs have a battle on their hands making the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as a Steve Davis equaliser in the last minute deservedly secured Keith Hill’s Rochdale a draw at Spotland on Sunday, thus earning them a replay at Wembley next week.
Thus, there have been many frustrated Tottenham fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mirror, which details comments from defender Davinson Sanchez regarding his future at the club.
The 21-year-old only made the move to the North London outfit back in the summer but has made a fine start to life at Spurs, appearing 30 times in all competitions for Pochettino’s side, including starts in all seven of their Champions League games so far.
And the centre-back has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent times, only for the man himself to quash talk of a move to the Bernabeu.
He said: ‘I do not think about money or where it is. Right now, here in Tottenham I am very good.
‘I am playing every three to four days. I am being important in the team.
‘As big as Madrid is, no matter how big a team are, that has won what they have won, if the conditions are not favourable for me, unfortunately I cannot accept.’
And these comments are sure to interest and perhaps delight our resident Tottenham fans, who have seen Sanchez make a great start to life at the club to suggest that he could be a huge asset in the years to come.
Landlord’s verdict: Davinson Sanchez has made quite an impression since making the move to Tottenham during the summer, to the point that he is currently keeping Toby Alderweireld out of the team.
As such, the 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, what with the Spanish giants expected to undertake a huge overhaul given their serious struggles in La Liga this season.
Yet Sanchez himself has quashed talk of a move to the Bernabeu, which has thrilled our resident Spurs fans given how influential the centre-back has been this term, and looks set to be over the coming years.
