Tottenham: Fans criticise Hugo Lloris for Aston Villa’s opening goal

Tottenham added to their league victory over Manchester City last time out as they came back from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-2.
It is a result that boosts their chances of finishing in the top four as they reduced the gap to one point, but not everything about Spurs’ display will feel their manager with confidence. Tottenham have been guilty of some suspect defending at times, even under Jose Mourinho with 16 goals conceded in 14 league games, and that was highlighted once more at Villa Park.
Hugo Lloris has missed a significant amount of game time through injury and supporters would likely have hoped and perhaps thought that his return would improve the side in that area.
Is Eric Dier finished at Tottenham?
Yes

No

However, the Frenchman was partly at fault for Villa’s opening goal as he failed to deal with a cross from Anwar El Ghazi, and Toby Alderweireld ended up bundling the ball back into his own net. The Belgian should have probably done a lot better, too, but fans instead made Lloris the focus of their criticism, as the reactions below show.
That is all on Lloris. Got to replace him

Hugo should’ve come and cleared everyone out

That is on Hugo. You can’t start to come out and then retreat when your defender is in that position.

That’s because Lloris started to come then stopped

Our defence is a joke. Where was Lloris there?!?
— Dan (@ElCapitain82) February 16, 2020
Lloris how on earth are you not coming out to claim that? Terrible from him and Toby, look like lost puppies out there.

Lloris is a liberty now. Should have kept gazzaniga in. We now need a top class keeper.

Tottenham fans, what is your opinion of Lloris? Was he at fault for Villa scoring early on and is he better than Gazzaniga? Tell us what you think in the comments below…
