Over the past few seasons, the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have often been often waxing poetic both often and loudly about their penchant for developing young talent.
With Mauricio Pochettino at the helm on Hotspur Way, the Argentine has presided over the emergence of a hugely vibrant side, one that can challenge the Premier League’s top order.
So, comments made from one of the most promising talents in Europe have dented the pride of some of the North London locals.
Scotland international Oliver Burke has revealed to the Daily Mail that he was close to moving to White Hart Lane after impressing for Nottingham Forest.
‘I was going to visit Tottenham,’ revealed the 19-year-old.
However, he ultimately made a shock move to Bundesliga new boys RB Leipzig, becoming the most expensive Scottish player of all time.
”But I said no because Leipzig showed enough care and attention to the little details.
”For a young man I don’t want to go somewhere that is a big club and be thinking am I going to play? Am I going to progress?”
Perhaps this goes some way in explaining why Spurs’ eventual signing of Marseille winger Georges-Kévin Nkoudou was such a protracted saga, with Burke making a late summer move to Germany.
How far can Burke go in the game? Let us know below…
