Tottenham should be on the search for players to improve their squad during the January transfer window.

Spurs made history in the summer window by becoming the first side not to sign a single player since it was created in 2003. The Lilywhites made an impressive start to the season including a 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford but endured a mini-slump following three consecutive defeats. Victory against Brighton relieved most of the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s shoulders.

It's vital that Spurs do open their chequebook when the window reopens in January if they are to keep pace with the league leaders. One man they should be seriously considering is Rennes winger – Ismaila Sarr. Valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, the Senegalese forward is emerging as one of the brightest talents in world football.

Sarr netted five goals and registered three assists in 24 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and made an excellent start to the new campaign with two goals already to his name. The Senegal international celebrated being shortlisted for the European Golden Boy award with a sensational long-range goal against FK Jablonec in the Europa League. If his impressive performances continue, it’s only a matter of time before one of Europe’s giants come calling.

The 20-year-old would add depth to Tottenham’s wide areas and add another dimension to the attack. Sarr possesses blistering pace and excellent dribbling ability which makes him a nightmare for defenders to deal with. The youngster averaged 2.6 successful dribbles per game last season – no Tottenham player managed more (WhoScored).

Securing his services should be Tottenham’s number one priority in the January transfer window.
