Spurs might be set to make highly-rated defender Joachim Andersen their first signing of a new and exciting era.

Tottenham are preparing for life without Belgian talent Toby Alderweireld, and Sampdoria man Joachim Andersen could well be the man they are looking for.

Alderweireld signed an extension on his current deal which was set to expire this summer meaning he can leave for £25 million in the next window, with long-term admirers Manchester United one of the favourites to secure his signature (as per The Guardian).

Spurs have had immense success in the past with their defensive signings – with the likes of Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez all excelling over the years. And there is absolutely no reason why Andersen could not do the same.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Sport (via Sport Witness) Sampdoria director Antonio Romei has recently travelled to London to discuss the terms of his move.

Spurs fans have good reason to be excited, as well.

At just 22-years-of-age Andersen has been in immense form for Sampdoria this season playing a key part an impressive 10 clean sheets for the club. He has attracted the interest of a number of big clubs, including Inter Milan, who may be out of the running following their pre-contract agreement with Diego Godin, and we are not surprised given he could be available for £36 million.

Peanuts in this day and age for a top-quality prospect.

Should the Dane make the move, Spurs can look forward to watching the 6ft 4 man assert his physical presence both on the ground and in the air, where he is predictably most effective. It is not all about his speed, decisiveness and tactical knowhow though, Andersen is one of the new breed of defenders – the complete modern package.

Distribution, dribbling, calmness on the ball – you name it, he has got it.

Spurs fans, how good of an investment does Andersen represent?
