Tottenham face the toughest test of their season so far as they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Despite not making one signing in the summer transfer window, Spurs have made a perfect start to the new campaign with wins over Fulham and Newcastle. Tottenham fans will also be glad to see Harry Kane finally break his August curse with a goal over the Cottagers. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping the goals continue to flow against the Red Devils at the weekend.

The visit to Old Trafford will be the first time that Toby Alderweireld comes face to face with the club he almost joined in the summer. Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign the Belgian to bolster their defence, but a fee couldn’t be agreed. However, reports suggest that United will return for the 29-year-old and target a cut-price deal in January.

It seems inevitable that Alderweireld will leave the club so to replace him Tottenham should make a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender – Jonathan Tah. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has emerged as one of the country’s best defenders after becoming a mainstay in the Leverkusen side. Tah made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga last year as his team missed out on a Champions League spot on goal difference. The allure of Champions League football at Tottenham’s new stadium could be hard to resist.

The German is a colossal defender who averaged 1.7 interceptions and 1.2 tackles per game in the Bundesliga last season. Tah is also a huge aerial threat, winning 2.7 aerial duels per game last season – only Jan Vertonghen won more in the Tottenham squad. The former Hamburg defender is also brilliant on the ball, completing 86% of his passes from the back, meaning he is perfect for Pochettino’s system (WhoScored).

Tottenham fans would quickly forget about Alderweireld if they landed the services of one of Europe’s most promising defenders.

Tottenham fans, thoughts?
