Journalist reveals potential sticking point in Tottenham’s deadline day deal

Following the arrival of Serge Aurier already today, the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for more.

It’s been a slow summer for our local Lillywhites thus far, though the fact that World Cup-winning striker Fernando Llorente is expected to join the club is another reason to get excited.

Indeed, a transfer update from Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones has gone down well too.

He claims the north London outfit are keen on a move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes and are reportedly looking at a loan deal for the Portuguese international.

While he’d obviously be a big name arrival for Mauricio Pochettino, Jones does also hint at a potential sticking point for the Argentine coach.

The Blaugrana are understood to want a £40m permanent move if the former Valencia star reaches a certain number of games for Spurs next season.

Whether or not Tottenham would agree to such an arrangement remains to be seen, though our north London locals certainly hope they do, despite Gomes’ problems at the Camp Nou.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Gomes is a Euro 2016 winner and a player tracked by Real Madrid before his move to Barcelona, so obviously has talent.

However, £40m is a huge fee for a player unlikely to dislodge either Victor Wanyama or Mousa Dembele and Tottenham aren’t a club who splash such cash willy nilly.
