Tottenham are gearing up to face Barcelona in their next Champions League fixture on Wednesday night.

Spurs have racked up three straight wins in all competitions after a brace from Harry Kane secured a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield at the weekend. Attention now switches to the Champions League and a visit from the Spanish champions. Following defeat against Inter Milan in their opening group game, a positive result is needed if Spurs are to have any hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.

There may be no better time to face Barcelona with Ernesto Valverde’s men taking just two points from their past La Liga games. Despite their league form, Barcelona opened the group with an excellent 4-0 win against PSV with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick. Mauricio Pochettino’s men will have to be at their best to a result.

With the January transfer window just two months away, Pochettino should be keeping tabs on potential targets. One man they should consider signing is Manchester United playmaker – Juan Mata. Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, the Spaniard has less than one year remaining on his contract and could be available for a great price in the new year.

The 30-year-old became a Premier League star at Chelsea after leaving Valencia back in 2011. Mata was named as their player of the season for two seasons before eventually joining United in 2014. The Spain international has never been a key player under Jose Mourinho and could look for pastures new in search of game time.

Mata’s arrival would help lessen the creative burden on the shoulders of Christian Eriksen in the Tottenham attack. If he can rediscover the form he showed at Stamford Bridge, he would be an inspired addition to the squad.
