Tottenham fans will be hoping that Mauricio Pochettino will remain at the club amid interest from Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho was sacked last week following an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Anfield. United hired club legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as their manager until the end of the season when they will begin the search for Mourinho’s long-term replacement. United are known to be huge fans of Pochettino, and the Argentine is reportedly the man Sir Alex Ferguson wants in the Old Trafford dugout.
Despite their recent fall from grace, the advances of United would be difficult for any manager to turn down given the finances on offer. Therefore, Tottenham should make funds available to Pochettino in the upcoming window to convince him to stay.
One man the former Southampton boss should be targeting is Hoffenheim maestro – Kerem Demirbay. Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the German joined his current side from Hamburg in 2016 and instantly became a key player at the club. Demirbay has been plagued with injuries in recent seasons but has been back to his best at full fitness in the current campaign.
The 25-year-old is a complete midfielder who would slot seamlessly into the Tottenham engine room. Perfectly suited to Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system, the German is the ideal long-term replacement for Moussa Dembele. Similar to the Belgian, Demirbay loves to get stuck in, averaging an impressive 2.8 tackles per game in the Bundesliga. The midfielder loves to transition defence into attack, completing 2.3 successful dribbles per game this season. The Germany international has the vision and passing ability to carve open defences, averaging an incredible 3.2 key passes per game this season, which will be music to the ears of Harry Kane in the Spurs attack (WhoScored).
Approaching the prime of his career, there is no better time to lure the playmaker to the Premier League.
