There’s so much good about Tottenham Hotspur right now that even the most cynical of Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have oh so little reason to moan.
Despite the collapse towards the end of last season, ever popular manager Mauricio Pochettino has restored the title optimism on Hotspur Way.
Still, it doesn’t seem like everyone at White Hart Lane is that happy.
Kevin Wimmer has revealed he is ‘down on expectations’ from last season as he lingers behind stoic teammates Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the pecking order.
The Belgian duo form what is perhaps the most solid defensive partnership in the Premier League, with England international Eric Dier also able to operate in that role.
So, despite impressing during his run in the starting XI last season, the Austrian has struggled to impose himself onto proceedings often enough ever since.
Having made just one appearance all season, the 23-year-old has expressed his thoughts on the matter.
“After last season, where I played towards the end quite frequently, I’m already down on other expectations for this season,” he told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung (quotes sourced from the London Evening Standard).
“That [my injury] has taken me back a bit. It is difficult at the moment but I am patiently waiting for my chance. I try to always stay positive.
“The feedback from the club is always that they are very happy; that they see the future with me. This is very positive, but it is about the here and now.”
